GLOSSARY OF SCALE
Height: is the vertical distance from a point of land on the sea level.
mean sea level (MSL): average height of the surface all stages of the tide over a period of 19 years. Is usually determined by readings taken at intervals of one hour.
level Bank (BN and BM): an object is relatively permanent natural or artificial, which has a fixed point set, whose elevation above or below an adopted datum is known or assumed. Example metal disk set in concrete, large rocks, no moving parts and fire hydrants and curbs or sidewalks.
Cota: is the vertical distance from a reference plane to a given point or object.
Datum: surface level which refers to the elevations, such as the level of the sea.
Level: used to determine the horizontal line in a plane.
Leveling: the process is called altimetry, which is followed for determining elevations of points points, or different elevation or vertical distance between points.
Contours: is the best method quantitatively represent and prominences, depressions and undulations of the ground surface. A contour is a closed line or contour connecting points of equal elevation.
ground yet: is the result of dividing the difference of the two end points, the horizontal distance between them, indicating the ratio in percentage.
path is used in roads, canals and floor to allow drainage of water runoff.
Planimetry: studies the procedures for determining the positions of projected points in
a horizontal plane, regardless of their elevations.
Altimetry: studies the slopes of a relief (up and down).
